What Is Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine aiming to assist the natural ability of the body to heal itself.
In 1796 a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, discovered in his experiments that quinine (commonly used to treat malaria) causes in healthy people a kind of fever very similar to malaria itself. From this understanding he developed the idea that if a substance can create symptoms in a healthy person, it also has the potential to cure similar symptoms in a patient. He called the system of medicine based on this principle homeopathy, meaning “similar suffering”, like curing like.
After over 200 years, homeopathy is the form of alternative medicine most widely used throughout the world for acute and chronic conditions in people of all ages.
What Conditions Can Homeopathy Help?
Homeopathy recognises that all symptoms of ill-health are expressions of imbalance within our being; these may be mental, emotional and/or physical symptoms. If the correct remedy is prescribed, balance is restored, symptoms recede and the sense of well-being is improved.
Homeopathy is well suited to treating many conditions, including: headaches & migraines; skin problems; allergies, hayfever & asthma; ear, nose & throat infections; irritable bowel syndrome, colitis & Crohn’s disease; menstrual problems and PMT; urinary tract infections; anxiety; depression; panic attacks; post viral fatigue and recurrent susceptibility to illness.
Children often respond particularly well to homeopathy.
What Will Happen During The Consultation?
A full case history of your health and well-being will be taken, including details of any medication and treatment your are currently receiving. Since homeopathy is a system of holistic medicine your temperament, likes and dislikes will also be discussed.
This depth of information is necessary in order to select the most appropriate remedy to you as an individual.
The initial consultation may take up to one and a half hours; for follow-up consultations allow 45 minutes. Your remedy - included in the cost of the consultation - will either be dispensed at the end the consultation or sent to you by post.
Grazia Gatti LCCH RSHom
Registered Classical Homeopath
Grazia trained as a classical homeopath at the London College of Classical Homeopathy, where she qualified in 1999. She has a long-standing interest in holistic medicine and started studying homeopathy over 20 years ago, using it for herself and her family before seeking formal training. She is a registered member of the Society of Homeopaths and has been in private practice for almost ten years.
She has worked extensively with young families, following mothers through pregnancy and supporting parents health and emotional stability in the first years of bringing up a child.
She enjoys treating babies and children, but she also works with adults and particularly appreciates the fact that homeopathy treats the person, not the disease and therefore is an ideal form of medicine to support each person’s health and well-being throughout life, viewing our health history as a journey rather than a disjointed collection of symptoms and helping us to make sense of it as a continuous development.
Grazia is available on Tuesdays.
